Debating Retirement posted Jan 8th 2010, 2:23PM
Mood: RelaxedMusic: The Cure - Close to Me
I could make some grand announcement or something, but I'll just put it up front for everyone here.

I'm debating retiring from the spritecomic scene.

Now, that's got alot of impact for any real spriters. Any fans I may have. But, I learned alot of things since I started this business off my friend Wolf's computer back in 2002, when I was 12.

I used to get sad when a great spriter would quit.

I remember when KittyKaboom (who made Dysfunction on the Bob and George site, a classic in my book) quit the biz, it got me kinda wracked up. I dedicated an issue to it in Dungeons & Dumbasses and made an appearance as myself, or my avatar, Senretsu for the occasion. I didn't really understand why anyone would ever wanna quit the spritecomic biz. I thought of spriting as a dying breed of art that everyone should stick to.

But lately, I realized the spotlight belongs to those who can keep it.

Like movies, or Television, or Books even, spriting is a competetive business. Everybody has always been fighting for the top, and people will always fight for the top of the comic world's fame. I held it briefly on drunkduck. And I realized, when you just don't have the fucking time, at all, to keep yourself even distantly in the spotlight, or as a rare gem of underdog genius like myself, then you might as well drop it altogether until you can.

That's how crappy recolor comic's dominate the comic world.
Sometimes it's not about the quality, it's about the drive and dedication.

Right now I have neither. I haven't had neither in a long, long time. And it was a big hit to my ego when I decided to reboot the SG comic from scratch with "PixelPunks" and then I lost my entire spritesheet to a hard drive crash.

Just a small setback, I assured you, but one I never had the drive and determination to settle.

Now, I'd also like to remind you, I don't have most of the work I did on shadowrun anymore. I'm missing lots of Vinnie's sprites, and alot of work Clarance & Porg did is trapped on a mummified hard drive I'm, quite frankly, afraid to open for fear of it all turning to dust.

(It's a locked hard drive and I may accidently wipe it by trying to recover any data until I know precisely what I'm doing. It's a time coffin)

So again, I was debating retirement.
But as Porgon retired from the spritecomic scene early with "The Core", he never completely fizzled out of the business.

You can take the comic's away from the spriter, but you can't take the spriter away from the comic's?

Point is, once I get my laptop out of the pawn (I forgot to mention I'm literally, officially computerless this month, further impeding any progress) I'm going to be helping Yoshy manage his site, yoshyryudcc. A spriting website. Well-maintained. And if you don't know of Yoshy, he's also a very prolific spriter I have faith in.

All my work will be going public domain after my final announcement as a comic Author.

::REPEAT::
ALL MY WORK IS GOING PUBLIC DOMAIN ONCE I MAKE THE ANNOUNCEMENT.

That means, for all my enemy's, and for my fans, and a few obsessed stalkers, I'm finally donating my entire library to the public domain. Most of it will probably be hosted up on Yoshyryudcc for free download.

This includes full sheets of:
-Traubon
-Senretsu (8, 8.5, 16 and 32 bit versions)
-Vincent Rain
-Crow, Raven and Birx from D&D
-Medelrot, both oldschool and updated
-Jon Doe. Or JD. The blue-haired guy from SG.
-Hugo from Shadowrun
-ALL PROJECT 7 ARTWORK (That means my precious Beatle, Railen, Laz, and quite a few other sprites you've barely ever seen)
Etc

Everything. Everything is going right back to the spriting community that spawned me. FOR THE HORDE!!

I'll hope it'll put the fire under the asses of all the neospriters that need help getting on their feet, to a great start in a long spriting career. I'll be reading, my fellow pixelpunks, I'll be reading.

Also, I got back into College. From 8-3 I'll be at College taking courses in computers, biology, chemistry and Math. From 3-12 I'll be working full-time at fastfood. (Yep, I got a Job again)

I'm pretty deep in debt, but I have the means to pay it off, but it's gonna demand my full attention. I bet you dollars to donuts once I get some free time, I'm gonna fill it with women as well.

Also, In one final issue for every open-ended comic I've left behind, I'm going to leave a complete timeline. I'm gonna reveal everything I had planned for the next several years of spritecomics. The entire Senretsu Gaiden storyline I've been brewing up for years, right up until the last issue I had planned, "The Core" style.

(Porgon posted an entire timeline to the events after the core, to give you some closure. Hence, "The Core" style)

So, there you have it.
One last Journal entry as a spriter.
One last issue for every comic.
Maybe one last flash movie as a spriter?

And I'll be spriting in my free time. I'll likely be taking requests and becoming a legendary Cameo-whore. "Ran" style. And posting more video's on youtube. Working. Going to college.

Whatever, it's the least I could do for the pixels.
Much love friendo's.
-Senretsu/Clark

PS:
This has nothing to do with any negative feelings I don't have. I'm feeling fine. Life is just much too busy, in my real life, that I can't continue my spritecomics. I fully endorse those who continue to however, and will continue my position as a Veteran of the Spriter Wars. You'll see me at the local veteran associations, likely playing Chinese Go. Hahaha, take care!

To quote you,

Personally I find it a bit cool. I'm a pixel nazi, everything has to be perfect in my comics, It's hard for me to step back and look at my own comics from a spectators and not a critics viewpoint, I mainly read this comic because it breaks what I used to consider laws of good comic craft and still manages to tell an engaging story.

Holy shit, I read this once, and did not think anything of this, but I made you see something?

You must explain this to me!
